FIX #6: Optimize Your Damage (AKA Know How to Beat the Shit Out of an Opponent with Dee Jay Combos When It Counts)

One of the most common criticisms of Dee Jay is that people believe he has no heavy damage options compared to other characters. Which, of course, is absolute bullshit. The issue is not that he doesn't have them, but more that they are not all that obvious and they usually require him to build large amounts of meter to be useful (not as difficult as it sounds).

The four main features Dee Jay combos require to be heavy-hitters are:

1. they generally require investment in Super meter (at least one or two bars, optimally all four)
2. they have to minimize starting hits as much possible (since damage scaling quickly takes the steam out of later attacks, particularly Supers and Ultras)
3. they have to be practical (meaning you can use them easily in a match provided you have the awareness and muscle memory to do so)
4. you want to be able to apply the combos in as many different situations as possible, so that the opponent is continually scared of their possibility, no matter what they try.

The real challenge with Dee Jay's heavy-hitting combos is that they require a fair amount of practice and are often character-specific. That's a lot of research and work for a game most people no longer play so, to save you the trouble, I have attached a reference table (in both Excel and PDF format) to this post that will walk you through the best ones I have discovered and who they work on. And to sweeten the offering, I've also added a video of many of these below to show that they are all very possible.

NOTE: The beauty of these combos is that it really changes the tempo of the later parts of a round. When an opponent eventually realizes that you can come back at them with an attack sequence that can drain upwards of half their life (and under many different scenarios), that'll force them to rethink any attack they throw at you from that point onward. Whether you hit them with it or not, the mind fuck is always there to work in your favor.
